According to 2014-census report, only 5.82% of Indian marriages were inter-caste,an unaltered rate over 45 years.

Indian constitution elucidate about Special Marriage Act-1954 : "The act provides a specific design for Indians, all Indian nationals in foreign countries (irrespective of religion/faith followed by either party."The act was derived from a specific legislation proposed in late 19th century.The legislation is endorsed by financial help to the couple who enter on inter-caste marriages.

It is legally permitted in The Hindu marriage Act-1955.The latest proposal by central government-2006 would give 50,000 rupees/A$1100 to couples who enter on inter-caste marriages,across all the states.

Absolutely, inter-caste marriages are going to be the concluding frontier for caste annihilation.

Now, the state of affairs are changing on account of increase in education, employment, urbanisation & enlightenment with modernism.

"Why Indians lack concern in their own marriage choice?":-

1.As beneath the veil of all modernization & development, some people are utterly casteist.

2.This entire casteist affairs are constructed on endogamy.If people stop doting about caste while marrying, caste itself will evaporate(which will go against the high-caste groups).

3.Different life-styles, culture & status differences of either party diminish the inter-caste marriages.

4.inter-caste marriages couples and/or their children subject to discrimination or other harms (including violence).

5.Violence against pairs who undertake inter-caste marriages(who live in cities even) do exists.

What Supreme Court of India says:-

The Supreme Court of India declared that the inter-caste marriages are in national/social interest & a unifying factor for the nation.No one can obstruct the inter-caste marriages by choice.

The Supreme Court ordered the police forces across the country to take measures against those resorting to violence against boys and girls who enter inter-caste marriages.

The High Court (New Delhi) hears 15-20 new cases of 'abduction' & rape' of women who have married by their choice;"most, are decided in favour of women"- says public prosecutor Mukta Gupta.

"Despite of no legal restriction and incentives declared, the inter-caste marriages are rare due to social acceptance even within literate, high class families"//

Political views on inter-caste marriages:- In ter-caste marriages are publicly encouraged & endorsed by politicians & representatives;C.N.Annadurai(former CM, Tamilnadu),Periyar E. V. Ramasamy(social worker). Also, the Uttar Pradesh government offers incentives (cash awards) for inter-caste marriages.
