Gender discrimination remains the serious issue of shame to our society & worplawork as well .Lack of women in the workplace is a serious problem.Although according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, - "share of women in the labor force is projected to increase between 2014-2024. " Women are facing discrimination in the workplace.    *The sex ratio for the entire world population is 101 males to 100 females sex  (2018 est.).
*Whereas in India,107.48 males are reported over 100 females (2019 est.).
Women in Labour force :27.2%( in India)                                                                                                                  Apart from Gender pay gaps, recently, there are several other problems affecting women's participation in workplace.

Yes,we understand the importance of women's participation in workplace for complete development.Yet, their unequal role & disparity in wages plagues the different sectors of India.
Women suffer the brunt of gender discrimination at & away from work
Here is some recommended approaches employers can take to enhance or encourage female equality in the workplace:-
  1. Remove the gender pay gaps :

New era of payment transparency needs to be introduced that ensures the equal payments for equally performing the same work.Beyond equal pay, the policy should also ensure the fair & equal chance in recruitment, training, hiring & promotion.      There's no doubt that this will require more than talk,a real commitment to action.
  2. Zero tolerance against harassment:-

The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission says_that nearly 75% of all workplace harassment incidents go unreported. In many companies, cases of harassment (sexual or otherwise) are ignored. It affects the productivity, team spirit & the company culture adversely.                                                                            Establish a policy that strictly & specifically forbid any form of harassment.Women should come forward without any fear of retaliation.                                                            Despite challenges like lack of support after a career-break; deep-seated social norms & gender stereotypes, women are
  3. Share stories of successful women of your organization:-

If women see themselves in your firm recruiting collateral, the t are more likely to apply. Make sure, the professional development opportunities are accessible to the women in your organization, which will,in turn, help new female candidates to enhance their potential in a vacant position.                                                                        Despite challenges like lack of support after a career-break; deep-seated social norms & gender stereotypes, women are
  4. Writing an inclusive job description:-                                                                                     Despite challenges like lack of support after a career-break; deep-seated social norms & gender stereotypes, women are struggling, they have emerged as an excellent example at all levels of an organization.                                                                                                        So,use of any of these terms: hackers, ninja & rockstar etc in job description should be avoided as they somewhere decrease the women participation in a particular assignment.                                                          Besides, Race & Gender Bias  enhances the same.Women of color continue to deal with some of most entrenched hurdles at their workplace.
  5. Flexible work arrangements(FWAs):-
FWAs define where, when & how women work, allowing them to best manage their career & personal priorities.Nowadays, it's an effective tool to attract top talents. It is also considered to be cost-saver & reduces absenteeism.                                                         What leaders can do:
  • Switch their 'focus' to productivity & results from 'time spent at the desk'.
  • Encourage your team to set 'an example' about utilizing FWAs.
  • The maternity leave should be taken seriously under consideration by the management/organization.
These were some of the challenges & 'the way to tackle it' which will enhance the women participation in giving the prefect shape to the country & the society as well.
